Week one of the Oscars Death Race happened at the same as the yearly film festival in Tromsø, Norway’s biggest film festival, which is a festival I always attend. But among all the festival films was a few nominated that I got squeezed into the schedule.
Les Misérables (2019)
Tense and enerving, and with a really good “twist” that was clever and poignant.
Nominated for Best International Feature Film in 2020.
Jojo Rabbit (2019)
A good balance between the absurd comically and sentimental.
Nominated for Best Motion Picture of the Year, Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role (Scarlett Johansson), Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Achievement in Costume Design, Best Achievement in Production Design, Best Achievement in Film Editing in 2020.
Little Women (2019)
Good, but some scenes was very noisy, with quick editing, performers talking non stop and music score on top. If the scenes could be without music, it would have been fine. I also didn’t buy the leads as children, and the time gaps should have been shortened from seven years to maybe three. Other than that, I enjoyed it.
Nominated for Best Motion Picture of the Year, Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role (Saoirse Ronan), Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role (Florence Pugh), Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Achievement in Costume Design, Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures (Original Score) in 2020.
